Magnificant Mountain Views for Photographers in Gatlinburg, TN

By bsozak | December 11, 2015

The Smoky Mountains provide amazing views no matter where you stand. For photographers, though, it’s important to get the right shot of the Smokies. There are a variety of places to take these photos, but if you’re looking for some magnificant photographs of the mountains, consider one of these:

Clingmans Dome

2015-Smokies_04_28_00219-blendClingmans Dome is the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Rising 6,643 feet into the air, you won’t get a chance to capture views like these elsewhere. While it does take some work to get to the top (no pets or bicylces are permitted), the views are worth the trek. The highlights are the mountain views and a high-elevation spurce-fir forest.

On sunny, clear days, you’ll be able to see for 100 miles, however, with a pollution problem, it limits these views to under 20 miles. And unfortunately, the highest point in the park has its bad weather days. Clouds, rain, and colder temperatures are fairly common on the mountain. Regardless of these setbacks, there are still plenty of spectacular views to capture through a lens.

By bsozak | October 26, 2015

cabins_beautiful_09As fall and winter are here, this means more time at the cabin when the weather is colder.  Whether you own are using it for deer hunting, bear hunting or just fall hiking, you want a nice warm cabin to come back to after a day in the woods or the trails.  If you have a cabin that has electricity you typically want to be smart about how you use your heaters.  Even if you are using your cabin recreationally a few times a month you don’t want to run up your electric bill as you use heat.  Additionally, if you are gone hunting all day and don’t have anyone to tend to your woodstove you still will want an additional heat source to keep your cabin safely warm, especially in the winter months.

Why Buy from a Farmer’s Market

By bsozak | September 15, 2015

farmers-market-local-produce-520Local produce markets have been around for centuries. Though we might buy our groceries typically from a local grocery store due to the demand of product, it’s healthy to visit your town’s local farmer’s marekt from time to time. Farmer’s markets pride themselves in locally-grown produce and other products to enrich communities. They sell everything from corn, tomoatoes, pickles, cucumbers to cut flowers, crafts, and more. Farmer’s markets have grown immensely in the last decade, typically setting up shop once or twice a week during the spring and summer months. Some markets stay open well into the fall, too. 800px-Rustic-country-cabin-snow-storm_-_Virginia_-_ForestWanderFall means hunting. And hunting means it is time to go to the cabin!  This is always an exciting time, whether you hunt bear, deer, or just partridge.  Fall also means the weather is changing and colder temperatures are on the way.  Many of hunters have cabins in very remote areas, with no electricity available.  This means the usual novelties of being at home and turning up the furnace aren’t at our fingertips.  Having a safe and reliable heating source for your cabin is important.  There are a few very good options available for those camps and cabins that are off the power grid.

How You Can Help Clean the Beaches

By bsozak | August 28, 2015

3b7c0eed08e3e392381616b7d8cccdc6Every year, beach-goers flock to the shores and coastlines to enjoy the sun, the sand, and the salty water. It’s one of the many great vacation spots to spend time with family and friends, but this much foot traffic also leads to trash and pollution on our beaches and in our oceans. Needless to say, having people visit the beach is actually a good thing. It brings in economic growth, awareness to the environment, and in many ways, is like an eco-tourism stop.

While summer is coming to an end for many of us, beaches are year-round on the Pacific and the Atlantic in vacation spots like Myrtle Beach, Virginia Beach, and many others. Vacationing at the beach is actually a really exciting and often times, relaxing retreat, but if you’re headed to the beach this year, be sure you take part in keeping them clean and well-preserved. Here’s how you can do that: Continue reading “How You Can Help Clean the Beaches” »
