5 Amazing Things You Can Make with Lavender

By bsozak | June 26, 2015

The vibrant purple flower that grows in enormous fields has a lot more use than a nice view. Lavender has been used for all types of products ranging from health to food. In the past, it has been used to produce medicines, as well. People have used lavender for beauty products, such as perfume and lotions (more on that later). Even the ancient Egyptians were recorded to have used lavender for perfume, and even mummification. During the Roman era, lavender became a commodity to use for medicines and aromas, and still to this day, people use lavender for all sorts of products, especially those that are homemade. Towns now have festivals dedicated to the striking plant, like this one in the Hill Country of Texas. There are 101 uses for lavender and I’m breaking down the simple five that you can do yourself.

1. Lavender Deodorant
Make your own deordorant with fresh lavender. Sounds a bit strange, but natural deodorant is actually beneficial to health as opposed to store-bought manufactured sprays and smells. You can make your own natural deodorant with lavendar. A little bit of baking soda, coconut oil, constarch and lavendar makes a smelly homemade deodorant.

2. Lavender Jam
Typically unheard of but very delicious, lavender makes a great mixure in a jam. Lavender jam is best served with scones and tea, or served as a topping over brie cheese. The options are limitless!

3. Lavender Lemonade
Not a common recipe but an interesting twist on a classic lemonade nonetheless. Mix in the lavendar into lemonade for a sweet, colorful aroma and taste to freshen your senses. The purple flakes will turn the lemonade a beautiful shade of pink.

4. Lavender Hand Cream
What’s the use of lavender without turning it into a soft hand cream? Typical recipes for a lavender hand creme result in simple ingredients and foolproof method. With some sweet almod oil, coconut oil, olive oil, beeswax and an abundance of drops of lavender essential oil, you’ll have a freshly scented, soft hand cream.

5. Lavender Hairspray
Yes, you can actually make your own homemade hairspray… and with the fresh, beautiful  cent of lavender. Add filtered water, clear grain alcohol, a citrus fruit and some lavender, and you have a fresh summer hairspray made from the essentials of lavender.
